Car Rental in Downtown Casablanca vs Mohammed V Airport

Mohammed V Airport is about 30 km south of downtown Casablanca. That distance changes everything: picking up your car at the wrong place can mean paying for days you don't drive, or an airport surcharge you didn't need. This guide helps you choose between a downtown pickup (city center, Maarif, near the train stations) and an airport pickup — based on what your trip actually looks like.

Picking up at Mohammed V Airport

Brand counters in the arrivals hall. Europcar, Hertz, Avis and Budget all have desks in the terminal. It's convenient, but airport pricing typically adds 15 to 25% to the rate.

Local agency delivery. Most local agencies will meet you at the arrivals exit with the car if you book ahead, usually at no extra charge. You skip both the surcharge and the counter queue.

Best for: heading straight to Rabat, El Jadida or Marrakech, arriving late, or travelling with lots of luggage or kids.

Tip: Send your flight number to the agency when you book. If your flight is delayed, they'll know — and you won't be charged for their waiting time without warning.

Picking up downtown

"Downtown" in Casablanca usually means the city center around Boulevard Mohammed V and the Maarif district, where many local agencies are based or deliver.

How to get there from the airport without a car: the airport train connects Mohammed V to the city's main stations, including Casa-Voyageurs and Casa-Port, and taxis are available at arrivals. Once you're in town, the agency can deliver the car to your hotel or meet you near the station.

Best for:

Watch out for: parking. In central districts it's metered and often managed by an attendant — expect around 5–10 dh/hour. If your hotel has no car park, ask the agency to deliver the car the morning you actually need it.

What it costs either way

The daily rate is the same; what changes is the airport surcharge at brand counters and how many days you pay for.

Example: 5 days in Casablanca, then 4 days on the road. Picking up at the airport means 9 rental days, 5 of them mostly parked. Picking up downtown on day 6 means 4 rental days — and no parking fees in the meantime.
